Analeptics are a class of drugs that are used to stimulate the central nervous system and restore the normal rhythm of breathing and heart activity. These drugs are used in medical practice to treat conditions associated with respiratory arrest, arrhythmias, convulsions, and other disorders of the functions of organs and systems.

Analeptics are of different types, including respiratory analeptics and cardiac analeptics. Respiratory analeptics help to increase the frequency and depth of breathing, which may be important in resuscitation of patients with respiratory arrest. Cardiac analeptics, on the other hand, affect cardiac activity by increasing the contractility of the heart and eliminating arrhythmias.
