Prothrombin

Prothrombin is a plasma protein synthesized in the liver and involved in the clotting process. It is a precursor to thrombin, a key enzyme that contributes to the formation of a fibrin clot.

Prothrombin levels are important for assessing blood clotting ability and are often used in clinical practice through the INR or prothrombin index.
