A diterpenoid is a class of organic compounds that belong to the group of terpenes and contain 20 carbon atoms in their structure. They are formed in plants, fungi and some microorganisms, fulfilling a variety of biological functions, including protection against pests, regulation of growth and participation in metabolic processes. Diterpenoids are the basis for many natural substances, such as resins, essential oils, and secondary metabolites.

These compounds have a wide range of biological activity, which makes them valuable in medicine and pharmacology. Some of them, such as forbol, have anti-inflammatory and antitumor properties. Others, such as taxols, are used in oncology to treat various types of cancer. Diterpenoids are also used as antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant and immunostimulating agents.

Due to their unique properties, diterpenoids are being researched to create new pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements. They are also used in the food industry and cosmetology as natural ingredients to improve the quality of products and skin care.
