Neuropathic pain is a type of pain that occurs due to damage or dysfunction of the nervous system. This type of pain is different from nociceptive pain, which occurs in response to injury or inflammation.

The causes of neuropathic pain can be varied, including nerve injuries, infections, chronic diseases such as diabetes and neuropathies, and neurological disorders. Symptoms of neuropathic pain can range from numbness and burning to sharp and painful hypersensitivity.

Treatment of neuropathic pain can include a variety of methods, such as medications, including antidepressants and antiepileptic drugs, physical therapy, psychological support, and other approaches. Since neuropathic pain is often characterized by chronic symptoms, its management requires a long-term and comprehensive approach to improve the patient’s quality of life.
