Ammonia solution belongs to drugs that irritate nerve endings. The mechanism of action of ammonia when inhaled consists in the reflex excitation of the respiratory center through the receptors of the upper respiratory tract – the termination of the trigeminal nerve.
When applied to the skin, it has an irritating and antimicrobial effect.

In case of accidental damage to the mucous membrane of the eye, rinse with water several times (for 15 minutes with a 10-minute break) or with a 3% solution of boric acid. Oils and ointments are not used. For damage to the nose and throat, use a 0.5% solution of citric acid or natural juices. In case of internal administration, drink water, fruit juice, milk, better – 0.5% solution of citric acid or 1% solution of acetic acid until complete neutralization of stomach contents.
