Pharmacokinetics.
When used externally, the drug is absorbed through the damaged skin, wound surface; with accidental ingestion internally – through the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract. Boric acid can accumulate in body tissues. It is slowly excreted from the body.

Contraindication.
Hypersensitivity to boric acid, impaired kidney function, chronic mesotympanitis with normal or slightly altered mucous membrane, traumatic perforations of the tympanic membrane; periods of pregnancy or breastfeeding, including for the treatment of mammary glands, children (including newborns).

Symptoms of acute poisoning: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, impaired blood circulation and suppression of the central nervous system, decreased body temperature, shock, coma, erythematous rash. In case of severe poisoning, measures are taken to maintain the body’s vital functions, hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, replacement blood transfusion are carried out. With long-term use of the drug on large areas of the skin, symptoms of chronic intoxication may occur: tissue swelling, exhaustion, stomatitis, eczema, menstrual cycle disorders in women, anemia, convulsions, alopecia. In these cases, the drug is canceled and symptomatic treatment is carried out.

Adverse reactions.
The use of the drug can cause allergic reactions (redness of the skin, itching, urticaria, rashes, swelling). In isolated cases – the development of an anaphylactic reaction, including shock; desquamation of the epithelium.
With long-term use and in patients with impaired kidney function, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, confusion, oliguria, convulsions may occur.
