Who Echinacea Tincture is for

An immunomodulatory remedy in tincture form, used as an adjunct in conditions with reduced immune defense and in the first days of a cold. It is also suitable for topical use on slow-healing wounds.

  • immunodeficiency conditions associated with chronic recurrent inflammatory diseases;
  • the period after antibiotic therapy, cytostatic, immunosuppressive, or radiation therapy;

  • long-term use of antibiotics;
  • topical treatment of slow-healing wounds.

Compatibility and precautions

  • Due to its immunostimulating effect, it may reduce the effectiveness of immunosuppressants.
  • Not recommended to combine with hepatotoxic medicines (including amiodarone, methotrexate, ketoconazole, steroid medicines).

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

The complex of active substances increases the phagocytic activity of neurophils and macrophages, stimulates the synthesis of interleukin-1, stimulates the transformation of B-lymphocytes into plasma cells, and improves the functions of T-helpers. Inulin, lavulose and betaine improve metabolic processes, especially in the liver and kidneys. It has antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal properties.

As part of complex treatment of immunodeficiency states in chronic recurrent inflammatory diseases of various localization. Condition after antibiotic therapy, cytostatic, immunosuppressive, radiation therapy. Initial manifestations of SARS, with long-term use of antibiotics. Local treatment of wounds that do not heal for a long time.

Contraindication.

Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug or to plants of the comfrey family; diseases of connective tissue (collagenosis), multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases.

Progressive systemic diseases (tuberculosis, diabetes), diseases of the leukocyte blood system (leukemia, agranulocytosis), oncological diseases, rheumatism, AIDS, HIV infections, systemic lupus erythematosus, immunosuppression or immunodeficiency of various etiologies and other chronic viral diseases.

Period of pregnancy or breastfeeding. Children’s age up to 12 years.

Special security measures.

The duration of the course of treatment with echinacea tincture should not exceed 8 weeks. When storing the tincture, it may become cloudy and precipitate, which consists of active polysaccharides, so the bottle must be shaken before taking the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

Due to the immunostimulating effect of echinacea, the drug can reduce the effectiveness of drugs that have an immunosuppressive effect.

The drug is not recommended to be used simultaneously with drugs with a hepatotoxic effect, such as amiodarone, methotrexate, ketoconazole, steroid drugs.

The drug contains ethanol, which can increase the absorption and pharmacological effect of some sedative drugs and indirectly, by changing the activity of the cytochrome P450 system, affect the elimination of drugs that are metabolized with the participation of enzymes of this system. Ethanol can cause a disulfiram-like reaction when used simultaneously, for example, with some antibacterial agents.

Features of application.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use the tincture, as the drug contains alcohol.

The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving vehicles or other mechanisms.

The drug contains ethyl alcohol, so you should refrain from driving vehicles and working with complex mechanisms.

Method of application and dosage.

To achieve a quick effect, at the beginning of treatment, adults should take 40 drops of the tincture, and then another 20 drops within 2 hours. Then take the drug 20 drops three times a day. The course of treatment is no more than 8 weeks. For children over 12 years of age, the tincture should be prescribed in a 1:2 or 1:3 dilution of 5-10 drops 2-3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. When treating wounds, apply the tincture locally to the affected areas. Apply externally for compresses, tampons. Dilute 20-60 drops of tincture in 100 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution, moisten gauze with this solution, apply it to the wound and cover with compress paper. Change the bandage twice a day. The recommended duration of drug treatment is from 1 to 8 weeks.

Children.

The drug is not used for children under 12 years of age due to the ethanol content.

Overdose.

Nausea, vomiting, disturbances from the gastrointestinal tract, sleep disturbances, increased excitement of the nervous system, sleep disorders. The therapy is symptomatic.

Adverse reactions.

Allergic reactions: redness of the skin, itching, swelling of the face, rash, urticaria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, angioedema of the skin, Quincke’s edema, anaphylactic shock.

From the respiratory system: difficulty breathing, bronchospasm with obstruction, asthma.

From the side of the central nervous system: dizziness.

From the side of the cardiovascular system: arterial hypotension.

From the digestive tract: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

There were separate reports of a connection with autoimmune diseases (disseminated encephalomyelitis, erythema nodosum, immunothrombocytopenia, Evans syndrome, Sjogren-Larssen syndrome with impaired renal tubular function).

With long-term use (more than 8 weeks), leukopenia may occur.
