Glucophrangulin is a natural glycoside that is found in the bark of buckthorn (Frangula alnus) and belongs to the class of anthraquinones. Like Frangulin, glucofrangulin is known for its mild laxative properties and is used medicinally to treat constipation. It stimulates intestinal peristalsis, facilitating the process of defecation and contributing to the cleansing of the intestines.

The action of glucofrangulin is to increase the secretion of water in the lumen of the intestinal tract and strengthen the contractions of its walls. Thanks to this, fecal masses are excreted from the body faster. Drugs containing glucophrangulin are usually used for short-term relief of constipation symptoms.

However, prolonged or excessive use of glucofrangulin can be addictive as well as adversely affect the body’s water-electrolyte balance. Therefore, it is important to use these products under the supervision of a doctor and follow the recommended dosage.
