The herbal medicine has a mild laxative effect, stimulates the work of the large intestine.

The drug of natural origin is highly effective. The relaxing effect of the product is due to the fact that anthraglycosides irritate the mucous membrane of the intestine, as a result of which its work is activated.
Senna leaves are not addictive. Suitable for adults and children over 12 years old. The relaxing effect occurs after 6-8 hours.

If you suffer from chronic constipation, intestinal atony or you need to normalize the removal of feces, try senna leaves. The herbal preparation has a mild laxative effect and restores intestinal function.

To prepare the infusion , you need 2 tbsp. spoons of leaves pour 200 ml of hot boiled water and infuse for 30 minutes. in a water bath. Strain the cooled decoction.
Adults should drink the infusion 1 tbsp. spoon 1-3 times a day or a third of a glass at night. Children take 1-2 tbsp. spoons at night.

The main physical and chemical properties: pieces of leaves and fruits with admixtures of pieces of stems, buds and flowers of various shapes. The color of the leaves is grayish-green, yellowish-green, the fruits are greenish-brown, the buds and flowers are yellow. The smell is weak.

Pharmacological properties.
Leaf hays contain flavonoids, anthraglycosides (senosidine A and B, rhein, aloe-emodin), organic acids, resinous substances. This complex of biologically active substances has a mild laxative effect. The laxative effect of a decoction of senna leaves manifests itself 6-10 hours after ingestion and is caused by anthraglycosides, which increase the motor function of the large intestine.

Clinical characteristics.
Indication. Atony of the large intestine, chronic constipation.

Contraindication.
Hypersensitivity to biologically active substances of the drug. Metrorrhagia, paralytic intestinal obstruction, hemorrhoids, acute inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, appendicitis), peritonitis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, gastrointestinal bleeding, rectal fissures, spastic colitis, pinched hernia, pancreatitis, hepatitis, nephritis, cystitis, abdominal pain of unknown origin, severe disturbances of water and electrolyte balance, nausea, vomiting, diverticulitis, organic liver damage.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.
Simultaneous use with quinidine sulfate reduces the level of active substances in blood serum, with cardiac glycosides causes cardiac arrhythmia, with antiarrhythmic drugs, diuretics and corticosteroids causes muscle weakness.

Features of application.
Before starting to take the drug, it is necessary for the doctor to establish the cause of constipation to rule out intestinal obstruction. The drug is recommended to be used only if the normalization of bowel movements cannot be achieved by changing the diet or using drugs that increase the volume of intestinal contents. To avoid addiction, it is advisable to alternate the drug with other laxatives and limit the duration of use to one week.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contraindicated.

Method of application and dosage.
Place 2 tablespoons of leaves in an enamel dish, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and insist in a boiling water bath for 30 minutes. Keep at room temperature until it cools down completely, filter, and squeeze the remainder into the obtained decoction. Bring the volume of the decoction to 200 ml with boiled water.
Adults take ⅓-½ cup at night or 1 tablespoon 1-3 times a day warm. Children aged 12-14 years – 1 tablespoon, 14-16 years – 2 tablespoons, 16-18 years – ¼ cup at night. It is recommended to shake the decoction before use.
Place 2 filter bags in a glass or enamel container, pour 200 ml of boiling water, close and infuse until completely cooled. Adults take 1 cup at night or ¼ cup 1-3 times a day. Children aged 12-14 years – ¼ cup, 14-16 years – ⅓ cup, 16-18 years – ½ cup at night.
Store the prepared water extract in the refrigerator (at a temperature of 2-8 °C) for no longer than 2 days.

Children. The drug should be used by children aged 12 and over on the recommendation of a doctor.

Overdose. In case of overdose, intestinal colic, dyspepsia, diarrhea, violation of the water-salt balance are possible, which requires the withdrawal of the drug. Treatment is symptomatic.
Long-term (up to several years) use of large doses of the drug can cause atrophy of the smooth muscles of the colon and disruption of its innervation.

Adverse reactions. Allergic reactions (rash, itching, urticaria, local or generalized exanthema). Indigestion, colic pains in the intestines, flatulence, diarrhea, anorexia, change in the color of urine, intestinal pseudomelanosis, water-electrolyte imbalance (hypokalemia, hypocalcemia), albuminuria, hematuria, hyperaldosteronism, heart failure, increased fatigue, muscle weakness, convulsions .

Expiration date. 3 years.

Storage conditions. Store in the original packaging at a temperature not higher than 25 °C in a place inaccessible to children.
