Homocysteine levels

Homocysteine level is a measure of the concentration of the amino acid homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is a product of amino acid metabolism and plays an important role in metabolic processes in the body. However, elevated homocysteine levels may be associated with the risk of developing various diseases.

Normal homocysteine levels are maintained by the activity of various enzymes and factors, including vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid. These vitamins help convert homocysteine into other amino acids or substances that the body can safely use.
