Salicylates are salts and esters of salicylic acid, some of which have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. A well-known representative of the group is acetylsalicylic acid.
Individual salicylates are also used topically (e.g. in dermatology as keratolytics). The safety profile, contraindications and age restrictions depend on the specific active ingredient and dosage form.
