A keratolytic agent is a drug that helps to soften and remove the keratinized layer of the skin. Such drugs are used for calluses, hyperkeratosis, psoriasis and seborrhea.
They destroy the bonds between the cells of the stratum corneum, making it easier to exfoliate. The most common substances are salicylic acid, urea and lactic acid.
