Jet lag is a temporary sleep-wake disorder that results from crossing multiple time zones when traveling long distances, especially international flights. It manifests itself in the fact that it becomes difficult for a person to adapt to a new time of day in a new place.
Signs of jet lag can include insomnia, daytime sleepiness, irritability, loss of appetite, and trouble concentrating. Jet lag can be felt for several days, since the internal biological rhythms of the body do not instantly adapt to the new time. To alleviate the symptoms of jet lag, it is advised to follow a proper sleep pattern, avoid alcohol and caffeine, as well as adapt activity and nutrition to the local time, gradually adapting to the new schedule.
