Pharmacodynamics.
The drug exerts an antimicrobial, mainly bacteriostatic effect when applied topically against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, disrupting the processes of protein synthesis. Affects pathogens resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, and sulfonamide antibiotics. Resistance to chloramphenicol develops slowly.
Pharmacokinetics.
When used externally, chloramphenicol does not penetrate well through intact skin and mucous membranes, so its resorptive effect is weak. On average, the antimicrobial effect lasts for 6-12 hours.

Contraindication.
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme deficiency, acute intermittent porphyria, skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema, fungal lesions), pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Special security measures.
The use of the drug can lead to sensitization of the skin, which is accompanied by the development of a hypersensitivity reaction with further use of this drug externally or in the form of medicinal forms of systemic action.
In the presence of purulent or necrotic masses, the antibacterial effect of the drug is preserved.
With long-term (longer than 1 month) use of the drug, it is necessary to control the state of peripheral blood.
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.
Simultaneous use with drugs that suppress hematopoiesis (sulfanilamides, cytostatics, pyrazoline derivatives) is undesirable.

Overdose.
With an overdose of the drug, irritation of the skin and mucous membranes, local allergic reactions in the form of rash, itching, redness and swelling of tissues or increased manifestations of other adverse reactions are possible. Treatment is symptomatic.

Adverse reactions.
When using the drug, the development of allergic reactions is possible, including skin rashes, itching, dermatitis, burning, hyperemia, angioedema, urticaria. In such cases, the use of the drug should be stopped.
