Oral cavity

The oral cavity is the initial part of the digestive system, where the teeth, tongue, gums, and mucous membranes are located. The ducts of the salivary glands also open into it. The oral cavity is involved in chewing food, forming a food bolus, swallowing, taste perception, and speech.

Mucous membranes and saliva help protect the body from microorganisms. Regular hygiene and preventive dental checkups can reduce the risk of caries, stomatitis, and gum disease.
