Biologically active substances contained in hawthorn fruits (flavonoids, choline, acetylcholine, tannins, phytosterols) have hypotensive, cardioprotective, antispasmodic properties; increase blood circulation in the coronary vessels and in the vessels of the brain, increase the sensitivity of the myocardium to the action of cardiac glycosides, slightly increase the contraction of the heart muscle and, at the same time, reduce its excitability.
Biologically active substances contained in the roots and rhizome of valerian (complex ester of borneol and isovaleric acid, borneol, isovaleric acid, alkaloids, tannins, sugars), reduce the excitability of the central nervous system, reduce tension and irritability in case of mental overload and mental fatigue, have sedative, hypnotic, antispasmodic properties, enhance the effect of other drugs that have a depressing effect on the central nervous system, namely: sedatives, hypnotics, tranquilizers. In addition, the biologically active substances of valerian have a choleretic effect, slow down the heart rate, expand the coronary vessels of the heart, and increase the secretory activity of the gastric mucosa.
Biologically active substances contained in the motherwort herb (essential oil, saponins, tannins, alkaloids) reduce excitation processes in the central nervous system, contribute to the normalization of blood pressure and the onset of physiological sleep, and also enhance the effects of other sedatives and hypnotics.
Peppermint oil (contains up to 70% of menthol and its esters) and other biologically active substances contained in peppermint leaves (ketone-menthone, oleanolic and ursolic acids, flavonoid glycosides), stimulating sensitive receptors of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and stomach, reflexively reduce the feeling of nausea and prevent vomiting, and also have a moderate antispasmodic, sedative and choleretic effect.
