Ivy syrup – has a pronounced expectorant effect and relieves inflammation

The drug based on ivy extract helps to quickly get rid of acute or chronic cough, as it has an expectorant effect, and also eliminates spasm of smooth muscles and manifestations of inflammation.

If you suffer from respiratory diseases accompanied by a cough, try ivy syrup. The high efficiency of the tool is due to the large number of glycosides contained in ivy leaves.
They contribute to liquefaction of sputum, as a result of which it is easier to leave it outside. In addition, the drug has an astringent and antispasmodic effect, effectively eliminates inflammation.

Ivy syrup can also be used for symptomatic treatment of chronic bronchitis, as it quickly relieves cough.

How to use – adults should take 1-1.5 teaspoons of syrup three times a day. Children should also drink 0.5-1 teaspoon, depending on age, 3 times a day

Composition:
active substance: dry extract of ivy leaves;
1 ml of syrup contains 7 mg of dry extract of ivy leaves (Hedera helix L.) (5–7.5 : 1) (extractant – ethanol 30%);
auxiliary substances: sorbitol, potassium sorbate, apple pectin, flavoring “Cherry”, purified water.

Medicinal form. Syrup.
Main physicochemical properties: light brown, slightly cloudy liquid from malt
with a fruity taste and cherry smell.

Pharmacotherapeutic group. Medications used in cough and catarrhal diseases. Expectorants. ATX code R05C A12.

Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics. A drug of plant origin. Its composition includes a dry extract of ivy leaves, which has an expectorant, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial effect due to the glycosides (saponins) present in it. Reduces the viscosity of sputum, facilitates its discharge.
Pharmacokinetics. Not studied.

Clinical characteristics.
Indication.
Acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by cough;
symptomatic treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases of the bronchi.

Contraindication.
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or other plants of the Aralia family. Children under 2 years of age – due to the risk of worsening respiratory symptoms.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.
Without consulting a doctor, simultaneous use with antitussive drugs, such as codeine or dextromethorphan, is not recommended.

Features of application.
If you are concerned about shortness of breath, increased body temperature, purulent sputum, you should consult a doctor.
Use with caution in patients with gastritis or stomach ulcers.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
It is not recommended to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to lack of sufficient data.

The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving vehicles or other mechanisms. There have been no reports of effects of ivy syrup on the ability to drive or use machines.

Method of application and dosage.
Children aged 2 to 6 years – 2.5 ml of syrup* (½ teaspoon) 3 times a day.
Children aged 6 to 10 years – 5 ml of syrup* (1 teaspoon) 3 times a day.
Adults and children over 10 years old – 5–7.5 ml of syrup* (1–1½ teaspoons) 3 times a day.
The syrup should be used in the morning, afternoon and evening. Before each use, it is necessary to shake the syrup thoroughly!
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually. In mild cases, the duration of treatment is 7 days. To achieve a stable therapeutic effect, it is recommended to continue therapy for another 2-3 days after the patient’s condition improves.
If the patient’s condition does not improve, the doctor should be consulted for further treatment.
* Use a measuring cup if it is available in the package.

Children.
The drug is contraindicated for children under 2 years of age due to the risk of worsening respiratory symptoms. Use in children 2–4 years old requires a doctor’s recommendation.

Overdose.
Overdose can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and agitation. Treatment is symptomatic.

Adverse reactions.
Allergic reactions (mainly rashes, etc.), couperosis, dyspnoea are possible during use.
Patients with increased sensitivity may experience gastrointestinal disturbances, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Expiration date. 3 years.

Storage conditions.
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not higher than 25 ºС.
Keep out of the reach of children.

Packaging. 100 ml or 200 ml in a glass or polymer bottle in a pack. It is allowed to complete the bottle with a measuring cup.
