Plantain leaves are widely known for their healing properties, which are due to the rich chemical composition of the plant. The main components that provide a therapeutic effect are mucus, iridoid glycosides, phenolcarboxylic acids, saponins, flavonoids and tannins. These substances give plantain unique properties that make it a valuable means of traditional medicine.

Plantain leaf infusions and decoctions effectively destroy bacteria, which makes them indispensable in the treatment of infectious diseases. Of particular importance is the expectorant effect of plantain. The leaves of the plant help to thin phlegm and facilitate its removal from the respiratory tract, which is especially useful for bronchitis and colds accompanied by cough.

Plantain leaf contraindications
Despite its numerous medicinal properties, plantain herb has a number of contraindications. According to the instructions for medical use, plantain is not recommended for use with increased individual sensitivity to any of the components of the plant. Particular caution should be exercised by people with hyperacid gastritis, gastric ulcer with high acidity and reflux esophagitis, as the acids contained in psyllium can increase the symptoms of these diseases.
Plantain is contraindicated for children under three years of age, as it can cause allergic reactions and other side effects.
When using plantain drugs, it is important to avoid combining them with antitussives, as this can make it difficult to remove liquefied sputum from the respiratory tract. In case of symptoms such as shortness of breath, fever or purulent sputum, you should immediately consult a doctor.
